3 Keys to Determine Whether Your Business Succeeded in 2016

Startup Lessons Learned: Testing Facebook Ads

Dasheroo for Agencies - KPIsRecently we needed to drum up some leads for Mimi, our Director of Sales here at Dasheroo. Where did we turn? Facebook Advertising of course. How easy is it to set up a Facebook Ad in minutes, get it approved in minutes and start to find out what works and what doesn’t.

So we started spending a mere $20/day to drive leads to a sign up form where people can get more information on Dasheroo for Agencies.

Facebook Mobile Might Not Work for Your Offering

If you’ve got an app that appeals to a mobile audience, include placements on Instagram and Facebook Mobile. You should even set up separate ads so you can track each of them.

At Dasheroo we were getting a TON of traffic but no conversions because we selected our ad to be shown on Instagram and Facebook mobile.

So make sure you track where your website traffic is coming from. In this Dasheroo Insight we track Google Analytics by Device type. Just before the 16th of May you can see that our mobile traffic eclipsed our desktop traffic…weird.

Facebook Automatically Checks “Audience Network”.

This means that your ad will be optimized for where it will get the most bang for your buck. However you might not get conversions from it. And that’s what happened to us.

From the graph below you can see that Facebook looked at the Cost per Result and found that the Audience Network was giving us a .08 per click. Nice but not when they don’t convert. And we found people were not converting from a mobile device. Less than 1% of our traffic was going to the desktop. Even though that Cost per Result was .54 cents they may have signed up for more information.

We’ve got a lot going on at Dasheroo that we’re pretty excited about. We’re aiming to give you the best dashboard experience ever!

Release 27

All heads down on releasing a bunch of releases over the next few weeks. A few of the features include new Insights for Google Adwords, Facebook Ads and Instagram. We’re also getting ready to announce a new SendGrid integration plus a whole lot more.

We’ve actually released a few of these already “behind edge.” All that means to us is that it’s part of the live code so we can see that it actually works with our existing code, but users can’t see it yet until the rest of the release is ready to go.

Court our stud QA engineer and Nivi our awesome Product Manager have been killing themselves to get this out, thanks guys.

We’ve been inching up the SEO scale for some pretty cool keywords. We use SEM Rush to track this. It’s pretty cool.

You can see from the image on the right that we’re in pretty good shape for Instagram keywords (page 1!) and climbing for “Twitter” and “KPI”. And they get a ton of search volume…woohoo!

We wanted to be at Social Media Marketing World (SMMW16) an awesome event put on by Social Media Examiner SOOO badly but circumstances arose where we couldn’t. If you’ve never been to that show and you’re in online marketing, it’s a MUST GO! We did find out that we were mentioned at the show because we’ve got a great social media dashboard. Track Our Startup: Talking to Customers Gives Us Clarity

Lately we’ve been questioning the dashboard roadmap we laid out a half year ago to see if it matches where we’re at as a company now,which is a very different place! So Josh took to the phone (huh?) to actually talk to a variety of our customers to see who they are and what they’re trying to accomplish with their business and Dasheroo.

He specifically asked them about their current experience, what they liked and what they thought we needed to fix. And then asked them what they’d like to see in the future with Dasheroo. Of course these users were engaged enough with our product to actually spend time talking to us so next steps would probably be to try to get the users that are not engaged with Dasheroo to find out why and what they’d like to see. But it’s been a great eye-opening experience! Thanks Josh!

Our Trek to 1000 Google Sessions/Day!
Our organic channel (search) traffic has been on fire since we really started paying mind to it last year. As a result it’s doubled in just a few months! Direct channel traffic has been growing like crazy too. Since we don’t spend an ad dollars (just a few on Facebook) these two channels growing is exactly what we need to see, great word of mouth! We’re almost there, last Monday we hit 937 sessions (visits) and based on our 10% conversion rate we’ll almost hit 100 new users in a day. Woohooo! Great job, great product, great sales, great marketing.

5 Instagram Features To Put To Work For Your Business

In the early days of Instagram, the photo-sharing service was used primarily by individuals. This soon changed as businesses began to harness the power of the social media site.

As of September 2015, the Instagram community had reached more than 400 million users. With the company continually adding new features and functionality, its user base and reach is sure to increase in the years to come.

We try to keep a close eye on what all of our data source providers are doing here at Dasheroo. Since we provide business dashboards for our users, Instagram Analytics is a biggie when it comes to tracking how that application is doing for them.

Over the past few months, Instagram has added a variety of features to improve the user experience. Here are five that deserve your attention:

Instagram Ads

Instagram rolled out the ability to connect your account to your Facebook account and use the Power Editor in Facebook to create, target and run ads on Instagram.

Much like Facebook you can drive traffic to you website, you can use video or you can get mobile app downloads. And you can use three types of ads: images, video and carousel ads like the one below.

Instagram Direct Improvements

A few months back, Instagram made a few key changes to Instagram Direct. The two most notable features included:

  • Threaded messages.
  • Ability to send content from your feed as a direct message.

Much like Twitter you can include @-mentions to get noticed. So if you’re posting about something great and you want to get the attention of a person, a group or even a company this is a great way to do it!

Release 7.13 Adds 3D Touch Feature

The company rolled out this feature on December 8, 2015, and it has been a big hit from day one.

On your Android smartphone, for example, you can access all the 3D Touch features provided by the app, all without 3D Touch. By “long pressing” a thumbnail you will generate an expanded view of the image, including the ability to Share, Comment, and Like.

This makes it super easy to increase engagement with your audience!


It’s (not) Hip to be Square

An update that many people consider the most important of 2015, the company announced that users could share photos and videos in landscape and portrait orientation, along with square posts. Cool especially if those friends in your posts keep getting cut out if you don’t take the picture in square mode! Annoying huh?

Now you can even use old pictures you may have taken in landscape or portrait (which is probably most of them) and expand posts on Instagram. At Dasheroo we’ve got a ton of great pictures we’d like to have posted, now it’s time!

Up until this update in August, square posts ruled the photo-sharing service. Now, it’s hard to ever imagine going back.


We’re going to cheat a bit on this one, as Boomerang is not exactly a new feature for Instagram. Instead, it is a standalone video app launched by the company. Simply put it stitches together photos to make a video. Pretty cool.

Instagram puts it best, saying that Boomerang “lets you turn everyday moments into something fun and unexpected.” If you love Instagram, this app may be one that deserves some space on your smartphone.

It’s another great way for you to engage followers with your business!
