Startup Progress: New Release This Week, Internal Apps We Need

The holiday week didn’t slow us down, and even though we’re all in different parts of the country we still had our meetings and got some sh*t done!

On the developer front James decided to take it upon himself to give us a business dashboard of what he’s working on for each release. This way he doesn’t get bugged all the time for the feature/bug list and it’s front and center to all of us. Very transparent which is what we like. How did he do it? He did a quick connection with Pivotal Tracker, what we use to track all of the stories we’re working on and in which order. AWESOME! Should get us a quick outwardly facing dashboard when y’all start asking for it.

That said his team is working on a ton of stuff for a our next release THIS Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 2.08.09 PMWEEK!

  • There are a few Insights that weren’t able to be resized, DONE.
  • Bugs, DOING.
  • When you Add an Insight you’ll see a request for you to tell us what you want. >>
  • A new dashboard is on Staging (that’s our nifty term for the server that holds the code before it becomes live) and it’s Constant Contact! The cool part about that is that James wasn’t the one who coded this it was a new developer working with our code. It’ll be a stretch to get it out this week, but we’ll try!
  • And lots of other stuff that just make things work behind-the-scenes.

Marketing

We got an awesome shout out from the fine folks over at Duct Tape Marketing in their Weekend Favs Blog and look what happened, thanks guys! @ducttape

We have been getting our arms around Hootsuite, auto-scheduling Tweets and creating Twitter lists for Dasheroo. It’s taken a while but the Pro version has some pretty nifty features we’re uncovering like the bulk uploader and the ability to Tweet images inline in a feed. Wish they had better analytics and Dashboards though;-)

We’re also honing in with Mixpanel on what an “active” user means to our business. We need to be aware of exactly how people are using their Dashboards to create a better experience and the only way to get that is data. We’re also looking at Intercom for in-app messaging so that you know when we have some great new features or just features you might not know about.

Apps We Need Internally

We’re knee-deep in deciding on some front- and back-office apps for the business. We’re zeroing in on Insightly, Salesforce for CRM (thanks Salesforce for only offering Group Edition to enable one download of data per month! ;-( We’re also looking at Xero, Quickbooks, Kashoo, FreshBooks for Accounting. We’re down to ZenPayroll for Payroll (duh.) We’ll see what happens. For support we’re down to Zendesk to customer support. That was a ton of research and we still have a few decisions to make yet.

We’re done with the guts of our investor presentation, now it’s out for some fancy data visualization and imagery. We’ll be seeing that this week.

We’re talking to some folks about working at Dasheroo, one of them being a very cool developer. More on that in the coming months.

Shout out to the Beats Pill and Skype that let us have our weekly conference calls in a noisy Mini Cooper on the way to and from Tahoe this week!
