Great Research: Marketing Technology Landscape 2015

The other day one of our users sent us this eye-popping (or eye hurting?) uber Infographic from Ion Interactive, outlining the marketing technology vendors out there, with the line “can you find Dasheroo here?”

First, of course like a beacon, the Dasheroo logo popped out from the crowd! Yay us. And hey, we’re newbies in this space so that is pretty cool. And yes, accurate being placed in Dashboards & Visualization. That’s what we do.

So now that we knew this research for the marketing technology landscape was legit;), we took a step back to see what this graphic really represents. Our takeaways:

  • Dang there’s a lot of marketing apps out there! This graphic shows almost 2,000 across 43 categories and as the author, Scott Brinker acknowledges it’s definitely not comprehensive.
  • The most crowded categories appear to be Social Media Marketing & Content Marketing.
  • More and more all cloud-based, meaning accessible anytime, anywhere, from almost any device. We like that!
  • We believe the number of apps is going to continue to grow at a fast pace, as new technology advances.
  • As we’ve posted in the past, it’s an exciting time for new tech as it has become increasingly affordable to launch a new idea. But still, not so easy to make one successful!
  • And, good news for Dasheroo and others out there, the spend on marketing apps is also going to grow at a strong pace. IDC predicts that the worldwide spend for marketing software in 2015 will be $22.6 billion — and by 2018, it will grow by nearly 50% to $32.3 billion.
