What’s a Business Dashboard, Anyway?

Here at Dasheroo HQ, we eat, live, & breathe business dashboards. We’ve even made a cocktail by the same name so we can drink them too! So just what’s all the hubbub about ‘em anyway? First, you may wonder just what a business dashboard is. Well, our buddies at Wikipedia have a great definition of a business dashboard:

“An easy to read, often single page, real-time user interface, showing a graphical presentation of the current status (snapshot) and historical trends of an organization’s key performance indicators (KPIs) to enable instantaneous and informed decisions to be made at a glance.

A business dashboard is not a 12 page report. It is not a list of 53 metrics in alphabetical order. Think dashboard, like on your race car. Quick indicators. What are your business’ key indicators? How does your IT performance in various areas affect those indicators?”

Pretty good, Wiki!

But we have a couple additional tenets that we follow at Dasheroo to hopefully make our solution really valuable:

Customization, Collaboration & Interaction and key!

Customization, Collaboration & Interaction!

Customization is key: Each Insight (as we call them as opposed to just ‘widgets’) has to meld multiple data points so users can see correlation either within applications or across multiple applications. We achieve this by investing the extra time and effort to put ourselves in our user’s shoes, whether it’s a social media pro, a product manager, customer support director, CFO or CEO. And collaborating with these folks on a regular basis to make sure each Insight is relevant to them.

Keep it interactive: Static sucks! Via hovers, detail click-throughs, modals and other interactive features, we surface more information per Insight. Hey, our goal isn’t to replace all the various apps (Facebook, Salesforce, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, etc.) we create Insights for, especially when you need a deep dive. But why log-in to all those apps if you don’t have to? Plus, seeing info side-by-side really helps you get a grasp your overall business health.

Make it collaborative! Sharing is caring. So unless you are a business of 1 (if so, keep up the hard work!), you probably want to share, discuss, assign action items, create alerts and all sortsa other cool things that make the data work for you across various departments and responsibilities. Yes, we let you do that.

So, that’s our current take on business dashboards, and how Dasheroo hopes to make them work hard for you and help make your business sucesssful. Stay tuned and sign up to get on the early access list if you haven’t already!
