Have You Tested the New Google Adwords Extensions?

Google Adwords extensions are those additional links you see within paid search results. Basically they get more people to click and deep link to relevant content on your site, which is good for you, and also great for Google since each click is a cha-ching for them.

In addition to the existing ones, there are 4 new Google Adwords extensions that have been in beta for awhile. Here they are:

  • Image Extensions - have a visually compelling product to sell? Instead of waiting to show it off on a landing page or your site after a click, put it right up from in the SERPs:

  • Review Extensions - as the name suggests, you can feature a positive review or testimonial alongside your ad in order to give your product or service more credibility:

  • Dropdown Navigation Extensions - note, Google decided to kill this one on desktop searches, they are still experimenting with it on mobile. Don’t really know why they made this decision, it seemed a great way to get users to more relevant pages.

  • Communication Extensions - this one allows marketers to add an email capture field right under the ad. Sounds great to me, but is it too early to be asking for personal info? Well, our friends at ScreenPilot ran a test awhile ago, and had poor results when they conducted an A/B test. Higher CPCs and lower CTRs. Bad combo!

If you advertise a lot, you can get your Adwords manager to help get access, but regardless some of these new extensions are finding their way into the Adwords interface now. Give ‘em a try!
