Yup, it was bound to happen, we hit the Twitter limit of who we can follow! What you say? That’s ridiculous! How are people supposed to grow a business with the help of Twitter if they can’t follow people? We agree.
So you get to 2000 people you follow and if you don’t have this “secret” ratio of followers/following well then you’re SOL. You just can’t follow people anymore until you get more followers.
- We are eager beavers on Twitter - We think that’s what they want
- We follow people who follow us - We think that’s what they want
- We follow people who influence our industry so we can hopefully have them follow us one day and RT our stuff - We think that’s what they want
We understand that there are unscrupulous people out there who might get paid to follow people but seriously Twitter, you’re smarter than that. You should have algorhithms that tell you we’re not spammy types. C’mon.
So now we’re off to find people to follow us just so we can move that ratio number up. Seems to me you’re promoting spammy stuff.
Here’s what we found:
From Twitter:
The rules about aggressive following and follow churn still apply. In addition, every user can follow 2000 people total. Once you’ve followed 2000 users, there are limits to the number of additional users you can follow: this limit is different for every user and is based on your ratio of followers to following.
Bottom line, don’t follow more people than follow you, if you get to the magical number of 2000 people that you follow and you follow more than 10-20% that follow you you’ll be stopped from following people further. Follow us?
Read: Steve Buttry’s If you Twitter’s (stupid) follower ceiling, use lists to follow people, he and many others also recommend that you look at the list of people you follow and “unfollow” the people who just aren’t active to take the ratio down.
So follow us please!
